After many Federation conventions in Victoria BC, the Canadian Federation of the Blind is looking forward to hosting this gathering of the blind of Canada on beautiful Bowen Island, near Vancouver, British Columbia.

Conventions bring us together to celebrate progress, share experiences, and chart our direction for the coming year. Individually we are capable; together we combine our efforts and become unstoppable!

Help Blind Canadians by Donating Aeroplan Miles

The Canadian Federation of the Blind (CFB) will use donated miles to fly blind Canadians to the 2014 NFB Blindness Convention. This unique week-long gathering of over 3,000 blind people from around the world is an exceptional educational and mentoring experience. There is no comparable opportunity that offers the blind so much in such an intensive and compact session. Those who have had a chance to attend in the past consider it life-changing.

Donate Today and Together We Can Create a Positive Future of Hope and Opportunity for All Blind People

The Canadian Federation of the Blind (CFB) strives to improve the quality of life and employment prospects of blind Canadians.  As members of the blind community, we believe that the CFB is in the best position to understand and articulate the challenges, needs, and priorities of the blind.   Since incorporating in June 1999, we have also sought to educate other Canadians by removing the stigma associated with blindness.

The CFB is a registered charity. Historically, however, much of our funding has come from our own members, many of whom live on disability pensions and struggle financially, yet they believe our work is so important that they are willing to make financial sacrifices to support it.

Improving Opportunities for Blind British Columbians: 2013/2014 Budget Consultation

When it comes to dealing with services for people with disabilities, British Columbia has no coherent policy.

If you needed to learn how to deal with a spinal cord injury, G. F. Strong Hospital would be there for you. If you had a developmental disability, you could go to Community Living. Even though there have been problems and questions concerning that program, everyone accepts that the ultimate responsibility for its success lies with the province. If you are a blind adult, where would you go for intensive immersion training in essential blindness skills? Currently, in British Columbia, the sad answer is nowhere.

The CFB Supports Accessible Library Service

The Canadian Federation of the Blind has endorsed the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS).

The CFB favours a publicly funded, publicly directed, and publicly accountable library service, in which blind patrons will increasingly be able to access the same books, at the same time, from the same libraries as their sighted neighbours. We are extremely pleased that the National Network for Equitable Library Service is listening and working toward an integrated solution for our library needs.
