The Canadian Federation of the Blind (CFB) strives to improve the quality of life and employment prospects of blind Canadians.  As members of the blind community, we believe that the CFB is in the best position to understand and articulate the challenges, needs, and priorities of the blind.   Since incorporating in June 1999, we have also sought to educate other Canadians by removing the stigma associated with blindness.

The CFB is a registered charity. Historically, however, much of our funding has come from our own members, many of whom live on disability pensions and struggle financially, yet they believe our work is so important that they are willing to make financial sacrifices to support it.

In spite of our limited resources, in 2013 we have:

• Helped blind individuals and their families to attend educational gatherings to enhance their career potential and personal independence;
• Provided white canes to blind people free of charge;
• Conducted classes to help blind individuals learn how to use specialized technology;
• Researched the impact of legislation and regulation on blind citizens and
  brought this information to the attention of government;
• Hosted an online community to allow blind people, wherever they are, to meet, learn new skills, mentor and support each other, and discuss issues important to them;
• Given educational talks to community groups;
• And strengthened local groups that offer personal support and social activities.
