Whereas, there is no particular White Cane Day already chosen by CFB, and there is no such national single day for CFB to tap into, and it appears that International White Cane Day is October 15;

Whereas, our sister organization, NFB, in the U.S., has a government-proclaimed day on October 15 called White Cane Safety Day;

Whereas, we do not wish to include the word ‘safety’ in the name;

Whereas, it is beneficial to CFB to choose such a day to celebrate the long, white cane and blind people’s independence, empowerment and achievements through using it. The day can also be used as a platform to involve media and bring to attention pertinent issues of the day that blind people are affected by. The day can involve activities, such as a cane walk.

Therefore, be it resolved that CFB choose to call October 15, each year, as White Cane Day.
